Though she belongs to Punjabi descent she raised in Mumbai. She started her modeling career while she was in college. She started her film career in 2004 by the Bollywood film Kyun…! Ho Gaya Na where she played minor supporting role. Aishwarya Rai was in the lead. She started her Telugu film career by Lakshim Kalyanam in 2007 where she played the lead role. Thought this film did not so well in box office but this film supported her much. She gave her first business success film is Chandamama which was made at next year. Later she started working in Tamil films. She worked number of Telgue and Tamil films. She also looks back in Bollywood in the year of 2011 by playing the lead role in Singham. This film became the box office hit and she nominated the Filmfare Award for the Best female debut.
Kajal got CineMAA Award for Best Actress in the movie Brindaavanam on 2010 and she nominated Filmfare Award for Best Acting three times.
